Elisse and Brian contacted me about a newborn photo session when their baby was six weeks old. They wanted newborn photos, yet they had been so busy with all the myriad of things that come along with giving birth to a new life! Most of my newborn clients are 1-2 weeks old, and babies grow very quickly at this stage! While some of my newborn photographer colleagues have strict rules about a baby’s age, and will turn away babies who are older than 2-3 weeks, I believe that every family deserves breathtaking photos, no matter what the baby’s age!

I did explain that an older newborn baby may not curl up into the tiny baskets, and may wake up when I try to pose her when she’s sleeping. However, I reassured the new parents that I would deliver a beautiful gallery, although the posing may be different than my usual gallery. We booked their session for the following week, and it was a joy to work with gorgeous little Reagan!

At seven weeks old, newborn baby Reagan gave us some real smiles, and had much better eye contact than younger newborn babies. Although I did not get the sleepy “chin on hands” pose that I almost always get in every session, we got a stunning variety of photos. When it came time for the family photos, Reagan put up quite a fight and tried so hard to kick out of her swaddle! I persisted, and she looks so tiny when she’s all bundled up!

Although I recommend contacting me in your second trimester, long before you give birth, if you have an older newborn I’ll be glad to accommodate you assuming I have openings on the studio’s calendar! It’s never too late for gorgeous memories!
